  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Audrey Burge -- I could have sworn this was written as a letter to me. : My son was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD at age 6. And when I say I have struggled in parenting him partly due to my own mental illness and partly due to being completely ill equipped and untrained in how to parent an autistic child, I mean it. I was lost, turning to his educators, therapist and doctor, doing everything that I though possible to be a better parent to him. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from HomewardBound -- Great overview to introduce you to terminology, therapies, and tips : to have all the terms defined and have a survey of different therapies. I was surprised and encouraged by how much we were actually already doing in our home. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Heidi M. -- Wonderful guide for parents : for the child, but also encourages the parents to seek therapy (so many other books seem to ignore the emotional toll this can take on the parents/family as a whole). I also loved how she encourages parents to seek out not just other parents of children with autism, but adults who are on the spectrum to learn directly from those who are actually autistic. As a therapist, I appreciated the mix of clinical information (including differential diagnoses) with practical tools parents can use in everyday situations. Overall, this book helps bring about a mindset change: understanding that my child’s life may be different than what I had expected, but they can still thrive!
